The grapefruit tree is a tree of the Rutaceae family. The fruit is a globular hesperidium or just piriform, up to 15 cm in diameter. It is covered with a thick, fleshy shell, detached from the endocarp, yellow or pink, with small and very aromatic oil glands, rough. It has 11 to 14 carpels, firm, very juicy, sweet or sour depending on variety, separated by membranous walls characteristic bitter taste containing pulp from pale yellow to intense red color. The seeds are scarce, up to 1.25 cm long, usually polyembryonic, smooth, elliptical and white inside.
